Need your opinion. Someone in my league dropped Steve Slaton. Fair or stupid?

In a 12 team league (been with for 10 years) I'm in with friends (for money), the commissioner dropped Steve Slaton this week and picked up Willis McGahee. On his roster he also has Beanie Wells, Cadillac Williams and Portis.

First of all, Slanton has had two bad games but they were against two real tough run defenses, the Jets and Titans.

Second, I don't think you should just drop your 1st round pick after two weeks, even if it's for McGahee. I would have dropped Beanie Wells first and kept Slaton. But I think he's stupid.

Thirdly, in the CBS.Sportsline.com website where the league is hosted, I can see that Slaton has been traded one for one or in a package deal in a ton of leagues throughout the site. So dropping him flat out seems stupid, fishy, or just both.

Fourthly, I find this a bit unfair because then it seems like owners could just drop their 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks if they're 0-2, 0-3, 0-4, etc and have given up on the season. I don't think anyone would do that in this league but the possibility is there.

Slanton was picked up on waivers by his brother. Of course I saw Slanton was released on Wednesday (first day of waivers) so i tried to pick him up. But since his brother was first on the waiver wire again on Friday morning, he got him.

What do you guys think?

I put out an email to the league. His brother wrote back with some sarcastic remark but then said if people voted it was wrong, it should be reversed.

The commish put out some stupid, lame ass, sorry attempt at humor type press release. So he seems to not be taking it seriously. No one else has replied.

Barring injury, there should be a commissioner setting which disallows dropping your best players (unless injured, out for season) without a league vote.

I think so too. Are there some leagues where dropping early round draft picks like that is not allowed? After a certain week is it allowed?

In ours, there's never been a problem in 12 years. maybe cause in 12 years no one is stupid enough to drop a 1st round or even 2nd round draft pick after the 2nd week.

Well there was a lot of back and forth conversation, he says he did nothing wrong. Just followed the rules. If he doesn't think a guy is going to perform well (how the hell does he know after wk 2), he should have the right to drop him.

He right. How your rules are constructed, he can drop Slaton. Before next season starts, your league should come up with a rule to fix this.

seems wierd but also seems like a weak league where there is nothing that can b done. i mean there is only so much u can do. i dont have slaton in any leagues but I'm guessing he is undroppable in yahoo. I'm in leagues where this could happen. Don't play next yr, you prob take it more seriously than others.

2 Things

McGahee has put up better numbers than Slaton so far.
It could be that the guy was starting to see or believe that Slaton is a one-year wonder, so he dropped him.

Also, if they had a blind-bidding system like we have in the Bet Jamaica league where free agents such as this are dropped, there wouldn't be as much speculation because that player is free for everyone to make a run at.......
